Hiring a Mover
It can be a real luxury to let other people move your belongings - or it can be a nerve-wracking experience. Be sure that you hire a reputable mover and that you understand the terms of your deal.

Steps:
1. Call several moving companies.
2. Choose a company with excellent customer service.
3. Ask about rates. Be aware of any conditions that will trigger additional costs, such as moves over a certain mileage or goods over a certain weight. Ask what happens if goods are damaged, and under what conditions is the mover responsible and for how much.
4. Discuss with the moving company any considerations unique to your move. Point out any especially large or fragile items, and ask how they will be handled. Point out issues that affect access, such as staircases, steep driveways or small attics, and be prepared to pay more for complicated moves. 5. Make a confirmation call to your mover the day before moving day.
6. Remove as many distractions (such as pets, children, other appointments) as possible.
7. Mark clearly anything that isn't going to be moved, and separate it from those things that are. (Moving companies will move anything; even trash!)
8. Stand back and let the workers do their job; they have the tools and the know-how to do it quickly and efficiently.
9. Check that the driver has correct directions and a telephone number to contact.
10. Take a final walk through the house before the truck leaves to be sure everything is loaded in the truck.
11. Do not make final payment until all items are received and reviewed for damage.

Tips:
• Keep valuable items such as jewelry, legal documents, credit cards, and your wallet with you at all times.
• Make sure the movers don't load things that you might need before you leave, such as cleaning supplies, toys for the kids or pet food.
